Automated Test Lanes - One Man Test

The UK MoT test is at last coming into line with Europe, as one-man testing becomes a reality. Equipment for automated test lanes (ATL) is now on the market, enabling Mot stations to apply for one-man test status.

It is expected that most new test bays will be ATL as the relatively small extra cost saves the need for an assistant, but this remains optional at present. Additionally many existing bays will upgrade.

What you need to know…

To apply for one-man test status, your new ATL or upgraded test bay will need

• Play detectors (vehicle lift may need changing) 
• Auto prompt roller brake tester (new model needed in some cases)
• Headlamp tester (some existing models comply) 
• Mirrors for checking front and rear lights 
• Brake pedal application device
